The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger Actuator is a self-contained component with motors, sensors and a control unit.
The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger uses a movable nozzle to adjust the intake manifold pressure for various operating conditions. Nozzle movement is controlled by an actuator mounted on the tubocharger. When the Engine Control Module (ECM) Relay is energized, a fuse supplies battery voltage to the (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger and the unit is grounded by means of the engine block.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Actuator command missing, message from engine control module (ECM) not available for 75 milliseconds or more
Observable symptoms
1) Low Power
Probable cause
1) Software
2) J1939 CAN2 datalink fault
3) Loss of voltage or ground connection to the actuator
4) Terminating resistor
5) Actuator
6) Engine control module (ECM)
Detailed information
1) The nozzle goes to 100% position (open), resulting in low intake manifold pressure and low power
