PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1727 VTG Turbocharger Control – Data Erratic, Intermittent or Incorrect
PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1727 VTG Turbocharger Control – Data Erratic, Intermittent or Incorrect
IMPORTANT: This DTC can be the result of communication issues on the E-CAN network. If one of the following CAN-related DTCs is present in the DTC history, DO NOT TROUBLESHOOT this DTC:
U1011
U104C
U1159
U1835
SET CONDITIONS:
The PCI ECU (D420) detects that the actual VTG turbocharger nozzle ring position differs too much from the commanded position (by the PCI ECU) for more than 40 s.
DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnosis runs when:
1. The engine is running at a steady speed and load.
2. The engine mode is SCR high efficiency, Standard or Protection.
CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None
RESET CONDITION:
This DTC changes to INACTIVE after the diagnosis runs and passes.
REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back? (Can be pending, inactive or active)
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
IMPORTANT: DO NOT re-calibrate the turbocharger actuator before the cause of this DTC has been identified and solved. Re-calibration could lead to engine performance and/or engine brake performance issues.
1. Communication issues between PCI and VTG turbocharger actuator. (In that case, the PCI ECU sends request for specific nozzle ring position, but turbocharger actuator does not respond with actual nozzle ring position).
2. Temporary blockage of the VTG turbocharger nozzle ring mechanism due to:
– Soot build-up
– Freezing
– Engine start shortly after a hot shutdown
3. Turbocharger actuator calibration procedure was not completed successfully.
4. Malfunction turbocharger actuator
5. Malfunction VTG turbocharger nozzle ring mechanism
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. To create the requested boost pressure and exhaust gas pressure, the exhaust gas flow guidance into the turbine rotor is controlled by the position of the turbocharger nozzle ring.
2. During normal engine control the turbocharger nozzle ring position is commanded by the PCI ECU.
3. The actual control of the nozzle ring is carried out by the VTG turbocharger actuator (L037), a smart actuator that communicates with the PCI ECU via ECAN.
4. The actuator provides feedback to the PCI ECU about the nozzle ring position.
5. This DTC can become active together with P2563.
