PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1717 Exhaust Gas Temperature After BPV – Data Erratic, Intermittent or Incorrect

PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1717 Exhaust Gas Temperature After BPV – Data Erratic, Intermittent or Incorrect

SET CONDITIONS:
The PCI ECU (D420) detects that the temperature after BPV differs by more than 421°C [790°F] from the temperature before DOC (EAS) for more than 50 seconds.

DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs when:
1. The engine is running at a steady load and
2. The coolant temperature is above 50°C [122°F] and
3. The engine mode is SCR high efficiency or standard or protection and
4. The fuel dosing valve (EAS) is disabled

CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None

RESET CONDITION:
This DTC changes to inactive when the fault is no longer detected.

REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back? (Can be pending, inactive or active)
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. More than expected loss of heat between the engine exhaust and aftertreatment system inlet (e.g., damaged exhaust pipe insulation)
2. Temperature after BPV sensor deviation
3. Temperature before DOC sensor deviation

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The temperature after BPV is compared with the temperature before DOC (EAS).
2. The temperature after BPV is measured by the temperature after BPV sensor (F853).
3. The temperature before DOC is measured by the ECU DOC-DPF temperature sensors (D418).
