PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1481 EGR Valve Module Current – Data Valid but Too High

SET CONDITIONS:
The EGR valve actuator (L095) detects that the measured actuator current is greater than a temperature-dependent value for more than 6 seconds.

DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs continuously when the ignition is on.

CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None

RESET CONDITION:
This DTC changes to inactive as soon as the fault is no longer detected.

REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back?
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Sticking or blocked EGR valve or mechanism
2. High friction of the EGR valve bearings or mechanism in combination with a high actuator temperature

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The actuator motor torque is reduced with this fault active. Under certain circumstances this can result in the actuator not being able to reach the target position and P1480 becoming active also.

2. After 36 hours of engine operation with P1481 active, P1518 becomes active.

3. After 100 hours of engine operation with P1481 active, P151A and/or P151B become active.
