PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P0503 Vehicle Speed Sensor – Out of Range
SET CONDITIONS:
The PCI ECU (D420) detects that the measured vehicle speed is higher than 140 km/h [87 mph].
DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs continuously after ignition is keyed on.
CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None
RESET CONDITION:
This DTC changes to inactive when the fault is no longer detected.
REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back?
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Driving at high speed (e.g., downhill)
2. Faulty vehicle speed signal
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The PCI ECU uses the vehicle speed sensor as an input for the vehicle speed.
2. When this DTC is detected five times during one drive cycle, it stays active. A drive cycle is the period between ignition on and off with the diagnostic condition met. After 4 hours of continuous ignition on or engine operation, a new drive cycle is started.
