PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P0217 Engine Coolant Temperature – Data Valid but Too High, Most Severe

SET CONDITIONS:
The PCI ECU (D420) detects that the coolant temperature is above 114°C [237°F] for more than 10 seconds.

DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs continuously when the ignition is on.

CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None

RESET CONDITION:
1. This DTC changes to inactive when the fault is no longer detected.
2. This fault cannot be cleared from the ECU memory.

REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Contact your engine field service representative for authorization to clear the warranty DTC.
2. Clear all DTCs.
3. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
4. Did the DTC come back? (Can be pending, inactive or active)
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Malfunction on the thermostat
2. Malfunction on the vehicle cooling system (fan, fouled/blocked radiator)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The coolant temperature is measured by the coolant temperature sensor (F566).

2. When this DTC is active:
– The engine torque is reduced.
– The engine runs in protection mode
– A red warning is active on DIP
