Detroit DD16 GHG14 (2014-16) Fault Code: SPN 3246 FMI 0 (ACM) Diesel Particulate Filter Outlet Temperature – Very High

DESCRIPTION:
This code sets when the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) outlet temperature is greater than 760°C (1400°F) for more that two seconds.

MONITORED PARAMETER:
DPF outlet temperature sensor.

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Always on

MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None

EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Continuous when enabling conditions are met.

TYPICAL DURATION:
Two seconds

DASH LAMPS:
1. CEL
2. MIL
3. SEL

ENGINE REACTION:
1. 25% Derate.
2. Engine Shutdown.

VERIFICATION:
Parked regeneration

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Faulty DPF outlet temperature sensor.
2. Fluid intrusion into the exhaust.
3. Biased input for fuel mapping.
4. Incorrect or over-contributing fuel injectors.
5. Restricted air filter.
6. Incorrect camshaft timing.

NOTE: If any other codes are active fix those first.

PROBABLE CAUSES:
1. DPF outlet temperature sensor.
2. DPF outlet temperature sensor connector/harness.
3. Failed injector/cylinder on one of the cylinders.
4. Failed DOC.
5. Failed DOC sensor.
6. Remove the Aftertreatment Device (DPF) and inspect for signs of soot. If present, find source (charge air cooler, EGR valve, turbocharger, intake throttle valve, exhaust pipe leaks, delta p sensor failure).
7. Failed DPF.
