Detroit DD15 GHG14 (2014-16) Fault Code: SPN 5588 FMI 9 (MCM) Exhaust Gas Recirculation Actuator, CAN3 Communication Error

DESCRIPTION:
The fault code sets when the motor control module (MCM) does not receive a message from the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve actuator

MONITORED PARAMETER:
MCM communication from the EGR valve actuator.

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Ignition on

MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None

EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Always enabled

TYPICAL DURATION:
Two seconds

DASH LAMPS:
1. MIL
2. CEL

ENGINE REACTION:
None

VERIFICATION:
Ignition on

PROBABLE CAUSES:
1. If any other codes active, fix those first.
2. Wiring between the EGR valve actuator connector and the 120-pin ECM connection.
3. EGR valve actuator failure.
4. Failed MCM.
