Detroit DD15 EPA10 (2010-13) Fault Code: SPN 100 FMI 18 (CPC) Oil Pressure Low

DESCRIPTION:
Fault code sets when engine oil pressure is less than a calibrated threshold.

MONITORED PARAMETER:
Engine oil pressure.

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Always on

MONITOR SEQUENCE:
1. Key on.
2. Engine running.

EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Continuous when enabling conditions are met.

TYPICAL DURATION:
Two seconds

DASH LAMPS:
1. SEL
2. CEL

ENGINE REACTION:
1. None.
2. Engine derate.
3. Engine shut down – Calibration dependent.

VERIFICATION:
Check at engine operating temperature.

NOTE: The common powertrain controller (CPC) digital outputs have the same SPN as some motor control module (MCM) faults. The diagnostic service tool makes the distinction between the MCM and CPC when diagnosing a fault.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Failed oil pressure sensor.
2. Initial start after oil maintenance.
3. Vehicle is parked on a steep incline.
4. Improper oil level.
5. Oil dilution.
6. Leaks in the oil suction manifold.
7. Leaks at the oil suction pipes.
8. Failed oil pump.

NOTE: If 100-3 is active as well, fix 100-3 first.

NOTE: If 100-4 is active as well, fix 100-4 first.

PROBABLE CAUSES:
If oil pressure is fluctuating:
1. Oil level low or high.
2. Faulty oil gauge.
3. Cracked or loose oil pump suction pipe.
4. Loose drive or driven oil pump gear.
5. Fault oil pressure relief valve.

PROBABLE CAUSES:
If oil pressure is low but stable:
1. Fuel in oil.
2. High oil level.
