Cummins ISX11.9 CM2250 (2010-12) Fault Code: 435 (Sensor) PID: 100 SPN: 100 FMI: 2 Engine Oil Rifle Pressure- Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect
Circuit Description
The engine control module (ECM) provides a 5 volt supply to the engine oil pressure sensor on the sensor supply circuit. The ECM also provides a ground on the sensor return circuit. The engine oil pressure sensor provides a signal to the ECM on the engine oil pressure sensor signal circuit. This sensor signal voltage changes based on the pressure in the oil rifle. The ECM will detect a low signal voltage at operating conditions when the oil pressure is low.
Component Location
The engine oil pressure sensor is located on the left side of the engine block.
Conditions for Running the Diagnostics
This diagnostic runs immediately after the keyswitch is turned OFF, and the engine coolant temperature is above 70?C or 158?F.
The diagnostic only runs once per trip.
Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes
The ECM detects that the engine oil pressure reading is higher or lower than the other absolute pressure sensors on the engine after the keyswitch has been turned OFF and the engine has stopped operating.
Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active
The ECM illuminates the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
The ECM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle that the diagnostic runs and fails.
A default value for the engine oil pressure reading is used.
Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code
To validate the repair using a Diagnostic Road Test, utilize a route that incorporates both stop-and-go city driving and steady state highway driving. It may be necessary to load the unit for certain diagnostics in the ECM to run.
To validate the repair using a Chassis Dynamometer, utilize a routine that incorporates acceleration and motoring events, steady state highway operation, and load. This will simulate normal driving and allow the diagnostics in the ECM to run.
Cycle the keyswitch to the ON position for 30 seconds, then cycle the keyswitch to the OFF position for 30 seconds. Do not start the engine.
The fault code status displayed by INSITE? electronic service tool will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
The ECM will turn off the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp after the diagnostic runs and passes.
For On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) engines, the ECM will turn off the MIL after three consecutive trips where the diagnostic runs and passes.
The “Reset All Faults” command in INSITE? electronic service tool can be used to clear active and inactive faults, as well as extinguish the MIL for OBD applications.
