Cummins ISL CM850 (2003-06) Fault Code: 1717 PID: SPN: 3241 FMI: 15 Exhaust Gas Temperature 1 ? Data Valid but Above Normal Operational Range ? Least Severe Level. High catalyst inlet temperature has been detected.
This fault is triggered when the temperature at the catalyst inlet exceeds the maximum allowable temperature for a given engine rating. Leaks in the charge air system or a faulty turbocharger can cause high exhaust gas temperature.
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Information:
1)The ECM illuminates the appropriate amber or red fault lamp when the diagnostic runs and fails.
2)The ECM turns OFF the appropriate fault lamp when the diagnostic runs and passes.
Possible repairs:
1)Replace the turbocharger.
2)Replace the exhaust gas temperature #1 sensor.
