The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger Actuator is a self-contained component with motors, sensors and a control unit.
The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger uses a movable nozzle to adjust the intake manifold pressure for various operating conditions. Nozzle movement is controlled by an actuator mounted on the tubocharger. When the Engine Control Module (ECM) Relay is energized, a fuse supplies battery voltage to the (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger and the unit is grounded by means of the engine block.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Missing signal
2) Engine control module (ECM) does not receive communications from the actuator for approximately 5 seconds
Observable symptoms
1) Low Power
2) Regeneration not possible
Probable cause
1) Software
2) Loss of voltage or ground connection to the actuator, Blown fuse
3) J1939 CAN2 datalink fault
4) Faulty or missing terminating resistor in the aftertreatment diesel particulate filter (DPF) wiring harness
5) Actuator
6) Faulty termination resistance in the engine control module (ECM)
